There are three routes to transfer from the Shinkansen to the subway at Kyoto Station:
Shinkansen Central Exit, Hachijo Exit, and Hachijo East Exit.

If you’re carrying a suitcase,
the Hachijo Exit/Hachijo East Exit route is inconvenient, as it only has stairs.

Although it’s a slightly longer route, the route from the Shinkansen Central Exit to the Karasuma Exit is a smoother option.

If you’re carrying less luggage, the Hachijo Exit/Hachijo East Exit route is also convenient, as it’s a shorter distance.
