There are several ways to transfer to JR conventional lines,
but here we will introduce the smoothest ways:
using an IC card or smartphone, and purchasing a ticket.

Transferring with IC cards or smartphones

JR Line transfer gate (central transfer gate)

If you are using an IC card or smartphone to transfer to JR conventional lines,
it is easiest to use the Shinkansen Central Transfer Gate.

1.Head towards the JR Line transfer gate
(central transfer gate)

The transfer gate is marked by a white sign,
and the yellow sign is marked by an exit,
so be careful not to make a mistake.

2.Go through the JR Line transfer gate
(central transfer gate)

If you are using a line other than the Nara Line,
please take the escalator or stairs in front of you.
If you are using the Nara Line,
please proceed to the platform on the right without taking the escalator.

3.Head to the local train platform

Please refer to the table below for the conventional line platforms and proceed to the platform for your destination.

Transfers using tickets

Shinkansen Central Exit

To purchase tickets for conventional trains,
it is easiest to exit from the “Shinkansen Central Exit” purchase your ticket at the “West Exit” for conventional trains,
and then move on from the “West Exit.”

1. Head to the “Shinkansen Central Exit”

The exit is marked by a yellow sign.
The white sign is for the transfer gate to the JR line,
so please be careful not to make a mistake.

2. Go through the ticket gate at the “Shinkansen Central Gate”

  • If you have a ticket, please pass through the ticket gate.
  • If you have an IC card, please tap the card to pass through.

Note! You cannot exit the ticket gates with an “EX Ticket.”

3. Head towards the West Exit

  • After exiting the “Shinkansen Central Exit”,
    turn right and use the stairs or escalator you see at the back.
  • Continue heading to the West Exit.

4. Purchase a ticket at the ticket machine in front of the West Exit

  • When you see the “West Exit” on your right,
    there is a ticket vending machine just in front of you,
    so please purchase your ticket here.

5. Go through the “West Exit” ticket gate and head to your destination local train platform

  • Please note that tickets can only be passed through some ticket gates.

6. Head to the platform

  • Once you pass through the ticket gates,
    platforms 4 to 10 are on your right,
    and platforms 0, 2 to 3, and 30 to 33 are on your left.
  • Take the stairs or escalator down to the platform.
